Installation of HP SIM5
1st of all i would like to say that all the HPSIM issue is new to me, so hope you'll be pationet.
i'm trying to install HPSIM5 on a new proliant server (running WK3 SP1) and i'm having this problem afeter i complete the installation.
I open the HPSIM shortcut on my desktop and i'm getting a small window which says: "LOOKING FOR HTTP SERVER"...and below i have a counter of seceonds.
now, one thing i want to mention, the server don't have any access to the internet.
this is a secure network, and even the firewall is block on this port.
the question is, do i need to open the port 80 in order to view the HPSIM console?
further more, do i need to install IIS on the server before i install HPSIM?
Well,
hope to hear from you ASAP
Nahum,
Israel

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
No, IIS is not used, when HPSIM is installed it acts as the listener on the https 50000 port.
If you've a firewall on the server itself, you'll probably need to allow https on 50000

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
well, i guess you were right cause i took the HPSIM to my house and installed it on my virtual PC network and it worked.
i'm still getting the smaal window: "SEARCHING FOR HTTP SERVER", but after a couple of seconds my IE opens up with the HPSIM.
just one more question if i may...
why am i getting the little window i mentioned above?
is it a part of the HPSIM bootup procedure?
is it looking for IE in my window?
Best regards,
Nahum.
Israel.

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
It is just a counter windows, It is normal to see it briefly as you describe.
If you browse directly to https://hpserver:50000, you will not see this window.

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
a good thing to check is that you have snmp installed.
go to add/remove windows componants
management+monitoring tools ->details
then put a tick in;
Netwok Monitoring Tools
Simple Network Management Protocol
WMI SNMP Provider
WMI Windows installer provider
you'll prob need the sever cd to install.

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
Well, here's the situation...
i double checked that the monitoring tools are installed on my sserver, and of course i restarted it after the installation of the monitoring tools.
let me say just one more thing.
i'm installing the HPSIM in a secure enviroment with no access to the internet, and in our DC, i added the ports exception to the default dc policy which goes down the chain....and after that did the GPUPDATE & GPUPDATE/FORCE to the server, but i'm still getting the window "looking for HTTP server".
further more, here's another strange thing.
i'm installing the HPSIM on a proliant dl360 g4, with 2gb memory.
after the installation and when i restart the server pop's up a message that the virtual memory is low.(something is very weird).
well, hopw you'll have any news for me...
when i'm installing the HPSIM at my house on my virtual server, everything is cool, i don't know what's the reason it's giving me hell at work.

Re: Installation of HP SIM5
have you made any changes of password of recent? could well be an issue accessing the database.
try opening without going through the sim icon.
https://servername:50000/ i think(?)..
the virtual memery issue is expected, each time it tries to open the database it'll start a process called mxinventory.exe, you'll see loads of these if you open task manager, and they eat away your virtual memory.
