Installing OVO agent on HPSIM server

Folks,

I am have my installation of HPSIM to where I am mostly happy with it, now I want to monitor the CMS with my OVO system.

I am running OVO 7.1 on Solaris. I have manually deployed an agent on the w2k box that is running HPSIM/MS Sql-server.

The agent installs fine, but when I deploy the IM templates and try to start the agent I get the following message:

04/15/04 14:33:42 WARNING opcctla (Control Agent)(3668) [genctla.c:9446]: Trap Interceptor of subagent 1 aborted; process got signal -27.
Restarting the subagent after '10' seconds for the '4' time
in the last '0 d 00:00:41'. (OpC30-1196)

04/15/04 14:33:42 ERROR opcevti (Trap Interceptor)(5048) [opcevti.cpp:794]: Can't convert configuration file. (OpC30-114)
Syntax error in pattern definition "<<#> -eq 4". (OpC20-235)

So the snmp trap ov process won't stay up - when I do a manual opcagt -start - it lasts for about 10 seconds and then fails.

When I remove the IM templates and re-deploy templates (which don't include any snmp templates) there is no problem.

Anybody deal with this - the error log looks like it doesn't like a particular condition, and therefore the whole process bombs - that doesn't 'smell right' - anyway would appreciate some insight.

Thanks
Joe

Re: Installing OVO agent on HPSIM server

My understanding is the OpenView Operations for Unix does not have the Insight Manager policies available for it yet, at least not on the install media.

Did you acquire these separately or did you have someone convert the policies from OVOW?

Re: Installing OVO agent on HPSIM server

David,

There is a seperate install CD that comes with all the OSSPI level templates - and it does include IM, Dell Open Manage, HP Top Tools etc.

All we did was upload the configuration and there we go...

The doc is HP OpenView VantagePoint Operations SMART Plug-In for Microsoft Windows OS - 8.0 September 2003

So I am pretty sure that I am doing something 'supported'.

thanks

Re: Installing OVO agent on HPSIM server

You may want to pop over to the OVOU forums; not much traffic like that here. I've used OVOW extensively without issue, including deploying the policies to the hpSIM server.

Thanks David, I have posted over there - I have a feeling this is tied to a couple of different things wanting to own/attach to port 162...
