Is HP SIM fully supported on a VM?

In the past I have been told that HP recommended installing HP SIM on a physical server because certain features were not available in run in a VM.

 

Is this still the case?  Either way what are/were the differences between a VM or physical SIM server?

It is fully supported on certain combinations of hypervisor and guest OS
