Java related issues w/ SIM 4.1

Host server for SIM 4.1 recently ran completely out of disk space, accidentally. Ever since, when I try to login to SIM, I cannot get past the REDTEXT “INSTALL JPI" screen. This only occurs in IE. When I use Mozilla, I can Login no problem. However, when the SIM Home page loads, within Mozilla, and I click to view any System or Event, the java applet will start to load and then hangs. Following this, Mozilla freezes. At other times the applet will load, but will not become “active”(not allowing me to click on anything.)

Yesterday, I upgraded to 4.2 hoping it would resolve the issue, but no luck. I uninstalled and re-installed the correct Java version, numerous times, also no luck. Anyone have any similar problem or have any suggestions, besides rebuilding the box?? I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Re: Java related issues w/ SIM 4.1

What happens of you browse from a remote workstation?
Try firing up the Java Console and Clear the Java Caches.
If that fails to do anything, remove all versions of the JRE.
Download either 1.4.2_05 or 1.4.2_06 and install from scratch.
Check that IE doesn't under Advanced Settings a Java (Sun) Use Java v2 xxxxx referencing a version you do not have installed. You can just uncheck this box if you need multiple JRE's on the box.

Cleared Java cache, no luck. Un-installed and Re-installed the appropriate version, still no luck.

Regarding IE: the java version was unchecked but only had 1 version installed. Just out of curiosity, I tried checking it and rebooted, but received the same result. (REDTEXT â Install JPIâ screen)

Forgot to mention this in the primary post, but accessing remotely gives me the same problem.

My next step is to backup the config files for SIM and uninstall the entire application and all related components, and then try a fresh install. If no luck, most likely I will have to wipe the box. Something must have got screwy when it ran out of disk space last week. Iâ ll let you know how I make out. Thanks

Re: Java related issues w/ SIM 4.1

If it's happening locally and remotely it does seem to point back at the Server.

I've certainly seem different behaviour with IE and Firefox when it comes to using the JRE. It seems in both cases they're getting hung eventually.
You might want to check where the Java Caches are pointing to on the Server box. It maybe that there's still something in there that is causing the problems. You might just want to try removing the JRE, deleting or renamin the JRE Cache directory and let the whole thing be recreated.
Otherwise it probably is back to a fresh HPSIM install.

"Host server for SIM 4.1 recently ran completely out of disk space, accidentally."

In my experience this is universally fatal. Clean up the box, re-install HP SIM and restore your backup.

Re: Java related issues w/ SIM 4.1

Problem Solved! Something freaked out with SIM as a result of running out of disk space. So I uninstalled:

- HP PMP
- HP PMP Data Migration Tool
- HP System Management Homepage
- HP SIM
- HP SIM Data Migration Tool
- HP VMMP
- Java and Java Web Start

Rebooted. Went through a clean install of 4.2. No issues. I installed the correct version of java, when prompted, and so far so good. No more java issues with IE and bottlenecks using FireFox. Thanks for your input guys.

John,
Are you using Firefox?
I have two areas that Firefox does not work in, can you confirm if they're the same for you.

PMP, you cannot display graphs.
The Memory Details Display will not show anything.

Re: Java related issues w/ SIM 4.1

Currently I am using IE for SIM, due to the fact that it seems more reliable/stable.
FireFox seems slower and at times has trouble loading Java applets. Following this, the browser will crash.
Now that I have IE working again, I will stay with that, for SIM anyways.

With regards to your question: Currently, I am unable to use the PMP feature due to some proxy issue that I must now
investigate. At first attempt for online analysis I was successful and able to view graphs and monitor performance within IE. I then switched
to FireFox and received a proxy issue. Went back to IE, same thing. Once I get it solved I will let you know.
