Major issues with HP SIM 4.1
I have done a remote migration of CIM 7 to SIM 4.1. All has gone through ok.
These are the problems that I am coming up with :
1. The server itself does not show up in All Systems, even though I tried to manually add it and do an automatic update with all the IP ranges of the Network.
2. VCRM is installed on the server but will not show up on the drop down list under uptions -> Version Control Repository. Only showing my SIM 7 server (not trusted - which is the next point)
3. VCR will not allow me to trust the other VCRM server even though I have imported the certificates on the SIM 4.1 server.
4. No SNMP traps are being collected by the SIM 4.1 Server. I have tried to tell it to send a generic trap to itself and it does not come up, but the trap does get sent to the old CIM 7 server. (SNMP is set up with both Servers)
What is going on with this ? Has anyone come across these problems and had a resolution ?
Thanks in advance

Re: Major issues with HP SIM 4.1
many problems.
ad 1.: do you configure the SIM-servers SNMP correct? (trap destination (sim-server) with correct community strings and so on)
ad 2: i think, same problem (point 1). server is not in SIM and so the SIM knows nothing from VCRM
ad 3.: import the certificates from the SIM 4.1 server to the CIM and reverse. so both servers have a trust.
ad 4.: if the os is windows 2003, dont forget the point (snmp config) "accepted community names" and "accept SNMP packets from these hosts" (localhost and the name of the SIM-Servers).
hope it helps
best regards christian

Re: Major issues with HP SIM 4.1
All trap destinations and community strings are setup as per all the other servers, so there should be no issue there at all.
The OS is Windows 2000.
Everything on this server is set up like any other standard server we have on our network.
Very strange....

Re: Major issues with HP SIM 4.1
I seem to of fixed this by running the SNMP trap service under the same username as the SIM server instead of the local system account. My new problem is that the IPs are natted, and I want the trap to arrive from the NAT ip instead of the internal IP of the firewalled machine.

Re: Major issues with HP SIM 4.1
HPSIM 4.1 is defaulted to use the address from the trap PDU.
This setting may be changed by modifying the globalsettings.props file.
To make this change -
1) Stop HPSIM
2) Modify the following line in globalsettings.props:
AllowAltIpForTrap=enabled
to
AllowAltIpForTrap=disabled
3) Restart HPSIM
After the restart, HPSIM will use the address from the IP header.
