Making HP SIM work on Windows on IA64
I've a few Integrity servers which needs to be integrated with HP SIM (SIM server on some Proliant). I'm new to SIM and needs some advice on the following:
1) On each Integrity server, I've installed the Windows SNMP service. Do i need to installed WMI/WBEM as well?
2) During installation of SMH on each Integrity server, there were options like Administor groups, host name of SIM server etc. Where can I find documentation on how to configure all these settings?
3) How does HP SIM actually monitor the Integrity servers? I *think* its thru some form of SNMP traps being sent from the Integrity servers to the HP SIM server. As part of the Smart Setup 3.40 CD, there are some installation files for MIB agents. I can only extract them, what else should i do? I'm not very familiar with SNMP hence this question.
4) Is there any test which i can perform to verify a working setup?
5) Can the iLO (f.k.a management processor) homepage (i've the advanced ilo pack licenses) on the Integrity servers be integrated into HP SIM?
6) Where can i find documentation on different types of events being monitored (with recommended thresholds) on the Windows for IA64?
Thanks to all for reading and replying.

Re: Making HP SIM work on Windows on IA64
1. WMI, the Windows implementation of a WBEM CIMOM, is not optional. WMI exists already in your system as a part of Windows.
2. http://www.hp.com/servers/manage --> Systems Management Homepage --> Support and Documents
3. HP SIM already has the correct MIBs to receive traps from the Integrity systems. You would need the MIBs if you were trying to configure knowledge about your systems into another management product.
4. Discover the systems with HP SIM and check the Identity page for the discovery of SMH, SNMP and WBEM (even though it's WMI, HP SIM considers it WBEM).
5. Have them discovered by HP SIM and it will correlate automatically.
6. Thresholds are worthless (with the exception of maybe running out of disk space) because that individual datum needs to be correlated with other parameters to be meaningful. The Performance Management Pack is now available for certain Integrity servers. See http://www.hp.com/servers/maanage --> PMP --> Quickspecs for which models.
