Managed Task - How to test?

Hi! Basically i need someone to make sure i set up the Managed Task properly and didn't miss any steps. I want to receive email alerts when a servers Status Type is Critical, Major, Minor or Warning. Now, if i unplug a servers Ethernet cable, i successfully receive an email alert so i know that is working. But how can i test that if of these events occurs that i will also generate an email alert. Here is what i have.

Task name: Automatic Event Handler
Owner: Administrator
Time filter: None defined
Events:
severity is Critical
severity is Major
severity is Minor
severity is Warning

System collection: All Servers
system type is Server

Action(s):
Send e-mail To:me@xxx.xxx
CC:
Subject:Event Handling New Task
Message format:Standard
Encoding:ISO-8859-1

Write to system log

Email settings are fine.

Is there anything else i should be aware of or is this the normal way to configure.

Thank You!

Re: Managed Task - How to test?

Sounds like you have already sucessfully tested it by unplugging the Eth cable. Unplugging the Eth cable sets the status of the server to "Critical" not because you unplugged the cable, but because the SIM server can no longer communicate with the managed node - so it thinks its down. So in affect you already tested you scenario :)

Re: Managed Task - How to test?

That is kind of what i was hoping to hear, thank you for the confirmation. How do i know what types of "events" will actually set off the email alerts. I have only seen a very basic description in the manual.

For instance, Warning - The system has a potential problem or is in a state that might become a problem.

This doesn't seem to be very specific. How would i (or you) go about getting additional details on what could potentially be causing the alert or problem?

Re: Managed Task - How to test?

Sorry, one more thing. Is it safe to assume that when i unplugged one of the server Ethernet cables and an email alert was sent, that this event was driven from the Managed Task that i had created (listed above)?
