Managing DL360/380 with Redhat ES in SIM

Hi,

I have about 40 ProLiant DL360 G5 servers with Redhat ES 4 managed by HP SIM 5.1 (Windows 2003).

All servers are trusted by certificate generated by SIM, and I can see them all in SIM. However Their management processor (iLO) and VCA is not available on SIM although it is available locally.

I matched SNMP string and configured trap sink destination, but no luck. All Windows server are perfectly fine but all Linux servers. Below is a sample SNMP configuration for one of my Linux server;

dlmod cmaX /usr/lib/libcmaX.so
rocommunity public 'IP Address'
trapsink 'IP Address'

On SIM I have the same SNMP string for RO.

What am I missing? Is there any special configurations for Linux server?

Thank you.

Hope you find the answer Jon, we have the same problem here. We have 170 Windows servers all working fine with SIM, but none of the Proliants running Red Hat give us information above and beyond server model. You can even click on the server link in SIM and examine all the agents that are installed, but SIM seems incapable of doing this...

Use 'Configure or Repair Agents' in HP SIM to fix your communication problems. There is a lot of voodoo to getting Linux snmp.conf correct...

Thanks for your feedback. That was the 1st thing I tried but it didn't work. I also tried to re-identify all of them, that didn't work either.

I did get around this issue by manually configuring each instance with following order though.

1. Delete all Linux instances from SIM
2. Log in to System Management Homepage and delete trusted certificate
3. Make sure each server has correct SNMP setting before adding it to SIM. (rocommunity public 'IP Address'
)
4. Reconfigure VCA
5. Add server instance to SIM
6. Wait...
