Re: Monitor VMware ESX 5 HP server thru HP SIM

In vSphere 5 and higher, ESXi is the exclusive version of the hypervisor. There in fact is no "ESX 5" If you're using version 5 or higher, the ESXi 5 software will do what you're looking to do.

Also note that if you have Insight Control licensed for your servers, you can install the Insight Control plugins to vCenter and monitor your hardware from VMWare's vCenter management console as well, which will probably give you an even better experience in regards to fine grained control of your virtual machines as well as hardware monitoring. There's no extra charge for these plugins, the right to use them is included with your Insight Control licenses for your servers.

Hope this helps!

Re: Monitor VMware ESX 5 HP server thru HP SIM

Hi Daivid,

Just install HP ESXi Offine Bundle for VMware ESXi5.0, i have set the ESX login credential and run the discovery but it return below message. I can see the server appear on HP SIM list but when i check on the status find out it just show PING and do not have SNMP, i think this server only can ping and the SNMP it not working. there are not firewall between ESX host server and HP SIM server so I do not know what wrong with my setup.

Re: Monitor VMware ESX 5 HP server thru HP SIM

After you do this, subscribe to WBEM events, then force a hardware poll and see if the hardware status will populate properly after this. It looks like it being discovered properly, which is good.

I created an automatic event to subscribe to WBEM events every time a server is added to an ESXi collection.

Re: Monitor VMware ESX 5 HP server thru HP SIM

Hi LGentile,

Thank for the help.

I had try to create and subscribe the  WBEM event, and it run completed. Below is the message

Create Subscription for:

server.XXX.Com

Indication subscription successfully created.

If i'm click into my client under SIM and check system status,->Health Status,  it still show me PING only.

If i run the data report collection, it can show me the hardware spec but not hardware status.

You have mention to force a hardware poll, may i know which tab under SIM can do this?

Re: Monitor VMware ESX 5 HP server thru HP SIM

It is under Options - Status Polling - Hardware Polling..

Does the hardware status show up in the "Hardware Status" tab of the ESXi host itself or in vCenter?
