Monitoring Non-Compaq/HP systems? What can be monitored?

I was wondering what I have to do to non Compaq/HP systems to get them to be monitored? Are there any agents that need to be installed or anything so that it can monitor disk space, cpu usage, etc? Btw, what can you monitor with a non-Compaq/HP system?

Thank you,

It can be done. You need to locate an SNMP 'MIB' (Management Information Base) for your product.

For example - if you have Dell servers, follow the information in this thread:

Good Luck !!

Ah ok. So I'll start taking a look for some MIBs. :-) Do the MIBs go on the SIM side or on the machine that's being monitored?

You can load additional MIBs into HPSIM. See the main HPSIM home page for a detailed paper on that.
Note that with the HP Agents they send an SNMP Trap if they detect a problem. If you have nothing to generate a trap you're not going to detect much.
You can obviously monitor Up/Down stuff. But you may not see much more.

Ah bummer. So it's not really worth it all that much? Can I monitor disk space cpu usage and all that stuff or do I need MIBs for everything of the like?
