montoring IBM servers with HPSIM 6.1

Hi Guys,
I am trying to monitor IBM servers with HPSIM 6.1 for the last 2 weeks.
So far, Sim was able to identify the server model, name and IP addresses.

I want to use SIM in order to monitor IBM's hardware. I did it rather easily with Dell's servers (due to dell's documetation) , but I can't find anything to help me out with IBM.

Do i need to install some kind of agent or the IBM's counterpart of HP IM that will be able to show me the hardware status. I do not want to install IBM Director on every server. It is huge and take a lot of resources from the server. Does anyone know if there is a smaller software that does the job, like HP's Insight Manager or Dell's OpenManage Server Administrator?

With thanks,

Itamar

Re: montoring IBM servers with HPSIM 6.1

Hi David,
From what I understand I need to work with HP Vulnerability and Patch Management and install it on my sim server. Afterwords I need to install the agent on the IBM server. The problem is that the agents are not freeware, and i can use IBM director to monitor HP servers freely.

Anyway, I think I'm about to give up. Maybe it will be better off to use ibm director to monitor HP servers instead of using sim to monitor IBM servers.

I have opened a ticket with HP, let us see what do they have to tell about this.

Huh? Vulnerability and Patch has nothing to do with monitoring server health. Read the documentation at the link above. Put the IBM Director agent--the same agent you would need if you were going to use IBM Director--on your IBM servers and HP SIM will be able to manage them (to the extent documented in the paper). No royalty/license issues.

HP SIM does a much better job of managing IBM servers than IBM Director is able to do managing ProLiant servers.
