mximport - import wipes out all data?
Lookup HPSIM InstallPath (x86)
HPSIM InstallPath: C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager
Lookup succeeded
WARNING! Import wipes out all data from the database.
Do you want to proceed (y/n):
This can't be good. I thought this was a migration utility and we certainly do not want the db to be wiped. according to the documentation we should be able to use this process, correct? I would have expected the data configuration to be wiped but not the db.
Here is what I found in the readme:
Migration New migration tool to transfer settings from a Systems Insight Manager 5.3.x Central
Management Server (CMS) to an Systems Insight Manager 6.0 CMS, and from a Systems Insight
Manager 6.0 CMS to another Systems Insight Manager 6.0 CMS.
Data migration
The data migration tool is a command line interface tool that you can use to migrate configuration data from
an installation of HP SIM 5.3.x or later to a new installation of HP SIM 6.0 running on another CMS. The
process leverages both an export and import tool to migrate the data. For example, you can use this tool to
migrate a HP SIM 6.0 system on a 32-bit operating system to a HP SIM 6.0 installation running on a 64-bit
Windows operating system. Configuration data includes user settings, discovered systems and their credentials,
as well as additional customizations made to HP SIM. You can use the migration tool to move the data from
a working HP SIM installation to a new system, or to backup and restore an HP SIM installation. Another
common use is to avoid an “in place” upgrade, this allows you to keep an older version of HP SIM in an
available and operational state as a source system and install a new version on a different server and import
the data. This tool only supports Windows operating system with a Microsoft SQL Server local or remote
database and can only be run by an operating system administrator.

Re: mximport - import wipes out all data?
if you want to use existing DB then think of all data(DB) what u had previously? u want that to lost? some part of configuration is also stored in DB for that also it has to migrate old DB. what is your thought?

Re: mximport - import wipes out all data?
I think you're reading that wrong.
What it's telling you is that the Import will overwrite anything in the new database.
That's what you want, all of that data to come into the new database.
What it doesn't do is add 5.3 data to an existing HP SIM 6.0 installation. It doesn't merge data.
