We have a current SIM box running 4.2 with every thing being monitored/configured. We were going to upgrade to 5.0 but decided to go ahead with a new build on a new box.

We will eventually want to use the same server name as on the 4.2 box. Can i go ahead and get the new box to 5.0 and configured with the non production server name. Once it is up and stable rename the old server and name the new server what we curretly have.

Can this be done or will there be any gotchas with SQL, SIM, PMP or anything that would be name dependent???

I know that Version control stuff will be name dependent, but I just won't configure that till we get the production name on the new box.

If SQL Server is on the same box, renaming the Server is not recommended, SQLServer doesn't like it.

Yes it will be and looks like that wont work then.
