HPSIM, PMP and VMM Query

Hi All,

Rather than upgrade my existing HPSIM 4.2 installation I'm going to save the old database for historical data and remove HPSIM before installing HPSIM 5.0.

A couple of questions:
Do I need to Unregister the VMM Host before starting as I know the VM Host can only be registered to one HPSIM Server?

Can I simply manually re-add my purchased PMP Licenses to the new Server?

Any other issues I should be aware of?

TIA
Rob

Re: HPSIM, PMP and VMM Query

Rob,

There are quite a few things to be done.

1. You'll have to uninstall HPSIM 4.2, VMM1.x and PMP 3.1.x.

2. When you install the 5.0 bundle PMP 4.0 and VMM 1.11 will get installed. One thing to note here is that PMP 4.0 is capable of getting integrated to the DB created by the previous version if the 4.0 installer finds it in your SQL server. So, in case you prefer the monitoring right from the scratch then delete the PMP database after uninstalling PMP 3.1.x (do take a backup if required)

2. Now coming to VMM. If you have VMM 1.0 running and if you uninstall the same then the DB will be dropped automatically. If you have VMM 1.1 running and if you uninstall it, the DB will remain in the SQL server. SIM 5.0 comes with VMM 1.11 which uses the same database name as used by VMM 1.1 and so if you dont delete the DB after uninstalling VMM 1.1 you may run into troubles. So you better drop the VMM DB after uninstalling VMM 1.1.

Yes. You need to unregister the VMM Host before starting.

For PMP there will be no need for you to actually re-add your licences. The licences get auto-applied to those servers to which it was previously applied and you can straight away start monitoring.

Re: HPSIM, PMP and VMM Query

Thanks for that.
Yep, I had plans to drop or at least rename the databases. I'll ensure I definately do that now.
