New to HP SIM issue HPSIM install SQL connection Issue
Been searching these forums and found several things to check but still nothing that solves my issue,
I am new to HP SIM trying to get it going.
Installing HPSIM on a VM/Win 2008 R2 Std
My SQL is Physical, Win2003 R2 Std with Sql 2005 SP4.
Im getting the ol Unable to get information from the specified DB Server.
I checked the Acct im using it has DB Create/ServerAdmin/Sysadmin, SQL browsing is running. WIn Firewall on HP SIM Svr is off.
I am entering the following info
Selecting : Use SQl/SQL Express
username: adminacct
password: ******
domain: mydomain
Host: HIPSIMServer
Instance Name: use this one: SQLSERVERNAME
Port 1433.
I can telnet to the the IP of my sql box on port 1433 from the SIM Server and it connects...
Anyone have any ideas Im at my wits end here.

Re: New to HP SIM issue HPSIM install SQL connection Issue
same problem here on physical Win 2008 R2 standard with local SQL Express 2008 R2. using windows authentication here.
HP SIM says "Unable to get information from specified database server"
Settings are correct as I can log on to db instance using command prompt sqlcmd ...
what am I missing?
EDIT:
After I enabled SQL Browser it passes credential check, but gives me another error like page cannot be displayed ....
what an annoying piece of software.

Jakub it sounds like you are using IE9 or another unsupported browser.

Re: New to HP SIM issue HPSIM install SQL connection Issue
Are you using domain/acct?
UAC turned off?
Finally double check Browser Service from inside of SQL and not from Services itself - I have seen the Browser Service stopped in SQL but started in Services with SQL2k5

Yes, I tried IE9 as this is what I installed on 2008 R2 server ...
However I also tried Firefox 5.0 and that doesn't work either?
Should I try Google Chrome? does this softare work with any brand of modern browser?
or download some other older version of Firefox? not sure which one works right on x64 R2 though ...

Re: New to HP SIM issue HPSIM install SQL connection Issue
Those are all unsupported rolling back to IE8 would be optimum, see this related advisory for details on how to do that. It is pretty painless and would save you having uninstall and reinstall other browsers.

Re: New to HP SIM issue HPSIM install SQL connection Issue
Hi all!
Please check to see if port 1434 is open at DB server. This is the SQL browser port = must be open.
You can also check the logs in c:\hpic\sql...something.
Best Regards
/Micke Ch

just wanted to confirm, that HP SIM installer runs fine on IE8 and I am installing all components as I type. Thanks for pointing out the IE9 incompatibility, it was the culprit (Page cannot be displayed).
