Notification of single disk failure

Notification of single disk failure

I would like to configure my HP SIM 4.2 SP1 server, to send an email upon failure of a single disk drive. I do not however, want to flood the staff pager with notifications of every minor event that occurs. All of our servers are configured with at least RAID 1 redundancy, and we would like to be notified when one single disk drive goes bad even if the logical drive is still intact.

I have setup a number of different Automatic Event Handling tasks in an attempt to be notified of a hard drive failure; however, I’ve had minimal success. It should be noted, the event notification service is working correctly when configured for notification of all events.

All of are servers are Compaq Proliant boxes, so I tried to configure a task based upon the Event Category of Proliant Storage Events, and type name is Any. I have attempted to test this task by pulling one of the hard drives from a server. The server itself reports a minor hardware error when I do this, but this does not generate an event in the All Event log of the SIM, and I did not receive an email from the server.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to configure SIM to notify upon failure of a single disk drive?

Thank you in advanc

Re: Notification of single disk failure

I've configured an event to send a notification upon receipt of an Event Catagory - Proliant Storage System. Any time a storage event is received, I will receive a notification.
