Null system type

I have numerous Proliant DL360 G4 servers that I discovered through HP SIM about 1 year ago. Recently I added Windows patches to the machines, and now under the system home page, the system type is NULL. I haven't changed any SNMP or HP settings. Could 2003 SP1 affect this, or anything I should look for besides the usual SNMP or HP settings.

Re: Null system type

Check the security tab of SNMP. Make sure if it's restricted to "Accept SNMP packets from these hosts" that localhost as well as the address of you SIM server are in the accepted hosts list.

Also I found something odd on a couple of my servers where the VC agent would not run, and that caused the homepage to timeout.

By default the service runs under System Account and is set to "Interact with desktop". I found by turning that off "interact with desktop" I could get the service to run, and the homepage to display.

Re: Null system type

My SNMP settings are correct. The trap is set to R/W, and also set to access SNMP packets from any host. I tried the version control config that you described above, but that didn't resolve the issue. It is weird that when I first discovered the servers, they were fine. Now that after several Windows updates, the system type is NULL.

Re: Null system type

Check witch version of the psp you are using. You have to be using i think 7.10b or higher if you install windows 2003 SP1. I installed 7.30a and it fixed my problem. Also symantec anti virus was causing me to have this issue. I did a live update and it fixed it.
