Pager and paging

I've been woring on event notification and configured the paging settings to use a us robotics 56k modem.

When I try and send a page out IT is unsucessfull. What is worst is that the modemgoes on forever trying to make the attempt. WE had the old insight but that had file you could gointo to clear the errant pages.

I've read the forums and found that is indeed a tapi paging software. I've notice that one individaul had to un-install and reinstall the software to get paging working. Can someone provided a little more detail about how the paging system works and what configuration information information I need? for example do I put the 9 for the outside line in the phonenumber? are there issues whith certain modems? Can i configure the number of retries?

These are the links that contain the most information on SMS/TAP etc.:

Although you may have read them already. You could do a search on SoDef's name. I know he posted a workaround for his particular problem.

Can you dial out from DUN or HyperTerminal successfully?

Is the access number you're dialling TAP-compatible? (should be if you're in the US)

Go to Options -> Events -> Automatic Event Handling -> Modem Settings and check that the modem is set to the correct COM port.

The SMS settings are important too. This is managed per user (unless I am mistaken) so you need to open a user's profile for editing and look at the bottom of the page for "pager information". The Phone number is the access number for the SMS paging service of your telco. The PIN is the number of the cellphone to send the alert. Message length is (duh!). Baud rate you can set at 5600 for your modem. I think the telcos use 9600, but it'll still negotiate down. The most important is the Data Format. Most things in Europe use 8 data, 0 parity, 1 stop. Providers' formats will vary, so check with your telco which format it is expecting.

You should be able to put the 9 directly in front of the number. Your switch shouldn't have a problem with it.

Lastly... good luck!!
