Problem Logging into System Management Homepage on HP-UX

I'm having trouble logging into System Management Homepage using the root account. I've tested the machine in question to ensure that the root account password is correct, and I can log in; however, when I try to use the same credentials on System Management Homepage, I'm getting the message:

ERROR: username and password do not match

Am I correct in assuming the SMH authentication simply checks the OS account credentials?
