Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Hello

have a HP SIM environment running version 5.1. On the same server is an RDP installation running version 3.7.

I just bought a C class blade enclosure and 16 licenses for HP insight control Environment for Baldesystem

when I want to add the license "HP Insight Control Environment for Baldesystem", I'm not found the menu "DEPLOY> Insight Control licenses>Insight Control Environement Keys (BL)"

Any help is appreciated

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Hi again
I have now resolved my problem with licesne showing "Not Registered(33)".
I run the Intergrated installer from the ICE DVD.
I beleive it manadatory to run the "wizard" to sucessfully install Insight control.

Btw. you might install your license throu Deploy => License Manager =>.....
but to assign your license you need to Deploy=>Insight Control License (ML/DL)=>...

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Before you do anything, first try using the mxtool utility from the command line on the CMS. That tool will dump out any possible menu option. If the needed option isn't present in that list, then you're somewhat stuck; there is nothing you can do to get that menu option available, short of reinstalling from the Insight control management DVD (which isn't that painful, if you need to do that).

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

yeah great advice =/ but we are using Oracle database and ICE is not supporting that. So are we stuck with unknown licenses or can we get the menus ?

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

@ Stefan,

What exactly did you do when you say :-

"I run the Intergrated installer from the ICE DVD.
I beleive it manadatory to run the "wizard" to sucessfully install Insight control."

Can you tell us if you hadn't installed it at all or did you reinstall? I'm stuck with the same error and I'm a little aprehensive of possible trashing our RDP/SIM server install.

Thanks

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

I am running into this issue as well. Obviously, the quick fix is to run the integrated installer. However, my client is using an external Oracle database and this is not possible. I've spent some time digging through the DVD to see if there is a manual way to install this portion but have not found an answer.

FYI, here is HP's official answer, but only support SQL users:

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

I've also got a problem with the Installer actually locking up during the checking prerequisites phase so I'm unable to run the wizard. This was on v2.30 so I'm downloading 2.35 to see if this resolves this issue and allows me to run it.

Any results I'll post back here.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

The 2.35 DVD does not correct issues Oracle users will have.

I am meeting with my customer to recommend SQL as a database. Going forward, it seems likely that HP will support SQL first with the integrated installers and new plug-ins. I don't want to create a future nightmare for upgrades and patches.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

After two days of working on this problem, I finally resolved it. I ran the Integrated installer from the 2.35 DVD multiple times with no resolution. Finally I noticed that the installation of the "Insight Control Management Services" was failing saying "Failed to load XML file".

Following another ITRC post, I searched for "C:\Program Files\HP\Insight Control Management\gui" in the registry and deleted the entire key. It is located in "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall"

After deleting this entry, I re-ran the Integrated Installer and Insight Control Management Services was successfully installed. Then the "Deploy --> Insight Control Licenses" menu option appeared in SIM.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

For me I still can't get the installer to run past the pre-req check. I think its hanging on the check for HP SIM which IS installed. This was tried even using the 2.35 dvd. God knows whats wrong and even the HP guy who installed the thing didn't know why it was hanging so we're screwed then.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Is the server hanging? Or is the installation reporting that SIM is not running? I experienced the installer not detecting SIM for a short while. To fix that problem, I went to the products page and installed SIM individually. After the service successfully restarted, I was then able to use the integrated installer.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Jase,
I had the same problem with the ICE installer hanging on the system check screen. I was able to get around this by going into System Properties - Advanced - Performance Options - Data Execution Prevention and clicking on "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only..." on the HPSIM server (you will need to reboot)

You could also try to login to Windows with the same service account that HP Insight Manager uses when doing the re-install.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. Tried both the DEP option and the logging on with the SIM user and it still sticks on the Supported SIM Version line on the Advisor check screen.

Tried both 2.30 and 2.35 versions. Is the check mean't to skip quickly or does it take a long time?

Thanks

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

I had some weird problems with mounting the ICE DVD from ILO. I ended up mounting the image on my PC and sharing out the mounted image, then mapping the share on the HPSIM server to a drive letter like F:...

It's a long shot but you could give that a try. The "check" should only take 10-30 seconds to complete.

Other than that, I would try logging in locally and re-running the installer.

Re: Problem with menu Insight Control licenses

On the SIM server, also check the HPIC logs directory, typically here

C:\hpic\logs\ICM_\HPIC-setup.log

It may be able to pinpoint the issue.
