Problems with SMH when monitoring Citrix servers with SIM?

I have noticed the following problem in several different environments. When trying to monitor a Citrix Presentation Server 4 with SIM we’re not able to view the System Management Homepage, SMH, on the Citrix server. I have seen this on both SIM 5.1 and SIM 5.0 with SP5.

When trying to access the SMH from the SIM server I get the message “There is no System Management Home Page for [hostname]”.
When trying to access the SMH locally on the citrix servers I get “The page cannot be displayed”. All HP Insight services are running on the server, including HP System Management Homepage service. SNMP are configured the same way as all of our servers.

As far as I can see there are no other services using the same ports, for example licensing services etc.
At one of those locations we are able to monitor Citrix Metaframe XP servers running W2k or W2k3 without any problems at all, using the same configuration.

Anyone have some ideas how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

I'm having this same issue, but it jsut started since upgrading to PSP 7.90 - did you find a resolution to this? I have 30+ servers all working fine, but 8 Citrix PS4 servers with these symptoms . . . the SMH service keeps stopping or disappearing - I've re-installed a number of times now . . .

No, unfortunately we still have no solution for this problem. Noticeable is that all services run ok on our Citrix systems but the problem is still there.

There are some URLs you can try to use to get the SMH locally. Our servers by default try to open
https://127.0.0.1:2381
which gives a security alert because 127.0.0.1 is not the name of the server's certificate of course.
Other URLs I could use are
//localhost:
//[servername]:
//[IP_interface1]:
//[IP_interface2]:
Funny thing that //[IP_interface1]: gives me "page cannot be displayed", the others only ask for the site to be added to the "trusted site zone" of the IE.

For accessing the SMH from SIM I would check if the host name is resolved correctly if you ping -a it from the SIM server.

Re: Problems with SMH when monitoring Citrix servers with SIM?

As it turns out, I un-installed the SMHomePage from all my Citrix servers, then I walked away for a few days becasue I was frustrated, and had other things I needed to do. Then I re-installed it manually - extracted the files, and ran setup.exe. After that, I still could not load the the SMHomepage although the service seemed to be started, then I got distracted for a few days by some bigger issues, then when I came back to it, all was working. I don't know what was going on, but the silly thing just needed time, and obviously when I isntalled, it hadn't completely finished or something before I tried loading, couldn't and un-installed it . . . I even tried rebooting after installing before, and it still didn't work, but leaving it a few days did. I'm not sure how or why - maybe an angel came and fixed it for me (I'm the only admin...) or it just takes a REALLY long to to get itself 'settled'. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'm on the PSP version 7.90a with the SMHomPage version 2.1.10.186 Note: In the process of troubleshooting this, I uninstalled the Insight Management agents and the SMH, then installed version 7.6, of the agents, then upgraded to the 7.9 of the agents, then installed the SMH with reboots between each step. The last thing I did was walk away, and like I said, 3 days later, all was working.

Re: Problems with SMH when monitoring Citrix servers with SIM?

Hi,

I had same problem on a proliant server with installed sim, tried PSP780, PSP790 and some older agents and smh from PSP760, PSP740. The smh didn´t respond. Sometimes I got timeouts. I found following interesting hp customer advisory: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00551228

No resolution available at this time...
