Questions re: rebuilding HP SIM

Folks,

My HP SIM server died a sudden death... I was able to recover the files containing the database.

I have a couple of questions:

1.) Why does HP recommend storing the SQL database on a remote server instead of locally? I have a very fast server w/ 2 GB of ram and 125GB of space, so I think it would be optimal using local database instead.

2.) The documentation I found refers to using a MS SQL backup file for restoring files. I need to use the actual files instead. Any suggestions?
