Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

I changed the username in the xml files, but now I cannot log in to the server using my domain account. I can only log in using a local account. I'm getting the error system cannot log you on deu the following: error access denied.

Any ideas?

Greetz,

Jerry

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Yes - don't use a domain account. If you use the format "DOMAIN\user" in the .XML tool defs, the SSH client adds and extra slash (DOMAIN\\user) and breaks everything.

Good luck,

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi Jerry, Once you login to your CMS, using the local account, you then can add your domain account. Remember to "authorize" all systems and all CMS tools on your domain account. Let me know how you make out. You'll get it.

Best regards,

Mike.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

I used a local account with local administrator rights as service account, but no chance to start the service after the steps provided in th step-by-step guide.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

I was only talking about using a local account in the tool defs. Using a domain account for the services should work.

Good luck,

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

yes, it SHOULD... but it DOES not :-( This SIM with SSH is driving me mad :-(
First I get the authorization errors and after doing the postet steps in the word doc even my SSH service does not come up. :-( I've tried diferent users, local, domain, all with admin rights, but my service hates me, I think :-(

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

I don't know your exact situation, but I will tell you this: I changed the local administrator's user name on my CMS between installing SIM 4.1 and upgrading to SIM 4.2, and I couldn't get SSH to work at all. I finally ended up uninstalling and reinstalling SIM, and after that I had no problem.

You can also open a ticket with HP support; they do have specialists for all of these things.

Good luck,

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi,

I had a long weekend so I'm a bit late on the replies. But is what I have been doing so far.

I followed the instructions posted by Mike. One big different with I have being doing in the past was the "Run As Default", I tried changing it in the past, but I wasn't successful the difference was in the "-x force" That did the trick. I'm not getting the mx failure any more. Only the strange thing is that my SIM server seems to be the only target. When I want to deploy the initial support pack and as target I have three other service. When I look in the Task result logs, I always see as Target my SIM server.

Next thing I did was solving the mismatch between user names. I'm now able to connect using Putty, but when I run mxagentconfig and use the same credentials I get a "Failed to establish connection."

Any ideas?

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Greetings Jerry,

Once you have communications with "Putty" this now verifys for SSH is working properly. Did you try this step:

The second most common issue is a mismatch between user names, SSH keys, and the SIM service. This can result from various scenarios including changing a Windows password, reinstalling OpenSSH, or installing as different users. Regardless, the following procedure should re-synchronize everything:

Stop the SIM service

Stop OpenSSH

Delete C:\Documents and Settings\(service account)\.ssh

Delete C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\config\sshtools\known_hosts

Delete C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\config\sshtools\(any server named directories)

Delete C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc\var\log\(all files)

Delete C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc\passwd

Recreate the passwd file by running â C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\bin\mkpasswd â d â u (sim service account) >> C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc\passwdâ
If the account is local use a â -lâ instead of â -dâ .

Restart OpenSSH

Test basic SSH functions with a standard SSH client such as PUTTY.EXE (freely available on the Internet). You should be able to log in as the service account.

Run mxagentconfig. Enter the SIM hostname, the service account (without domain), and the password.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Hi Mike,

Yes, I did teh second step. Did it all on the server but no luck :(
But SSH seems to work fine. I can get a ssh connection with putty or with ssh command. But still mxagentconfig refuse to do the job.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Jerry,

If you followed the document completly and it still don't work, perhaps you should open a ticket with HP, Let them know the steps you did and if they ask you to blow the SSH away and re-create it, refer back to my doc with them. Let me know how you make out.

Best regards,

Mike.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Update:

On the managed system wher could connect to there is problem now. I stopped the OpenSSH serveice and I'm not able to start it again. It gives me a error that it isn't able to start as a local job. I changed the setting to log on as the domain admin which is used for SIM. But it still isn't able to start (same message) On this moment I uninstalled software. Now I want to reinstall software using SIM -> deploy OpenSSH. It looks to wotk fine. Strange thing is that the target system is the SIM server and not the managed server :( (see the attached the task result)

Sorry for my typing in the last post. Someone was disturbing me so I didn't read it back nor did I use a spell checker.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Strange thing is that the "OpenSSH" service is being stopped (on the SIM server) during the deployment task of OpenSSH or Support Pack.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Update:

I reinstalled OpenSSH on the managed server. It looks like I can only run the service as a local account and not use the admin account.
SSH connection works fine in both directions. MXagent still gives me a unable to connect.
Opened a case at HP.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Jerry, When you installed SIM, what account did you use, local admin or domain account? That should be the same account OpenSSH is using. If it's not, you will have to use the SIM account to install the SSH. Let me know what HP says.

Best regards,

Mike.

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

GOT IT!!!!

Finally its working! But NO THANKS to HP. Opened a case there but after 3 working days still no response!! This is what I call BAD service or NO service!

Okay, what did I do. In the SIM deployment you can deploy firmware and software as you probably know. Al the manuals talk about the option "Initial Proliant Support Pack" with the option SSH. Did didn't work, the cause probably is the OpenSSH part. Going for "install software and firmware" did install the software. After that I installed OpenSSH by hand on the managed server. And there it was MXAGENTCONFIG works.
So, if you ask me:

1. Install PMP by using SIM (deploy -> Driver, firmware and agents -> Install software and firmware)
2. Restart managed/ installed server
3. Install OpenSSH (maybe a remote deploy will work now, didn't test it yet)

Re: RE: SIM and Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install

Okay, got it almost :(
On the other service ther is now a trust problem. I think when i'm able to use the initial deploy then most problems will be solved. The main problem there is that the target machine is the SIM server itself. No matter what.

Jerry:

I had the guys research your case and it apparently was closed in error so there was no follow-up and no escalation. Expect a call from the call center soon to at least apologize if nothing else, and assist you further if necessary.

Thanks for your patience and for using HP SIM!
