Redundant Power Supply not supported?

I have a ML370 with 3 redundant power supplies, yet Insight manager says they are not supported. How can this be?

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

I have checked my instance of SIM 4.1 and my ML370 G1's power supplies show up fine. Have you installed the latest Insight agents (thinking it may be a problem with the foundation agent). Also, in the past with Proliant 1600's and ML370 G1's and some G2's we have had problems with the foundation agent not binding to services correctly in the registry (I have since setup an after install registry edit file to ensure the proper keys are setup in the registry).

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

I have removed and reinstall many times and I am running the most recent version of the agent.

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

Richard,
Does everything else show up fine other then the redudant power supplys?

Check your registry for the following entries (or something similar). These are the registry keys I have in my registry hack for working around problems we have seen with the agent install for 1600's and ML370 G1's and G2's.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents]
"CPQHOSTSNMP"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CqMgHost\\CPQSNMP"
"CPQMIB1K"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CqMgHost\\Parameters\\CPQMIB1k"
"CPQSERVSNMP"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CqMgServ\\CPQSNMP"
"CPQSTORSNMP"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CqMgStor\\CPQSNMP"
"CPQNICS"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CpqNicMgmt\\Parameters\\NICMIB"
"CPQNISNMP"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CpqNicMgmt\\CPQNISNMP"

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

I am using HP SIM 4.1 and yes, I have other servers that are showing redundant PS.

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

As far as I can tell, the ML370 does have an intelligent power subsystem. About the only assistance I can offer is that I have seen this kind of thing happen when the redundant power supply isn't cabled properly. Did this ever work? What has changed since that time?

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

No, to the best of my knowledge it never worked. We also have one ML370 that contantly telling us it have a Power Supply Failure when it is up and running correctly. We even had HP out here to replace the power supply unit in this server and even had the OS wiped(for other reasons) and it still shows PS failure on it. As far as cabling goes I doubt I would know the proper wiring from the incorrect one :(

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

Richard,
Just a stab in the dark here...can you verify if the HP Power Supply Viewer Utility is installed on that particular ML370 (just trying to brainstorm while looking over one of my ML370G1's that works fine).
We had an Proliant 5800 that had the same problem with the power supply reporting as bad (and it would even report the power supply as replaced even though no one had touched it). Compaq replaced the system board but problem continued. Problem continued until server was decommissioned.

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

Iran the Compaq Power Supply Viewer and it gave me a message of This system does not have an "Intelligent Power Subsystem".

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

Unfortunately, both the agents and the power supply viewer use the same instrumentation to gather data. This is consistent, but it doesn't give us any new information.

Re: Redundant Power Supply not supported?

hello

Try to upgrade system BIOS on that server.

or

If posible, use one server with redundant power supply wich work OK. Change complet power supply (wiring, backplane board of power supply cage, fans, power moduls) with power supply from server with problems. After that we see what hapens in server wich work ok and what in server with problems.
