Registration of MIB in HP SIM

Hello,

using the mxmib utility, the MIB has been successfully registered in the HP SIM. However while creating the rule for "Managing System Types", the wizard, shows the MIB fileName, but none of the variables corresponds to this MIB are getting displayed in the drop down box below.

Can anyone help me on this.

Thanks,

Hi,

You say "However while creating the rule for "Managing System Types". This does not make sense to me. Can you elaborate?

Re: Registration of MIB in HP SIM

Hi,

For discoverign the devices, I've created a new rule using the menu item "Options->Manage System Types...". In this wizard there is a page where you can select the required MIB files and attribute required for the rules. In this page, the attributes associated with the required MIB files are not listed in the drop down list. Hope it clarifies.

Please let me know if you need any further details on this.

Re: Registration of MIB in HP SIM

Apologies, I understand now :). What is the MIB you are looking to use? Was it bundled with the MIB kit or is it 3rd party? I have seen issues with the MIB syntax from 3rd party vendors not playing nice with SIM. If it's a 3rd party MIB, can you compile it with mxcompile?

Re: Registration of MIB in HP SIM

When adding new system type try to create rule using query for discovered device name or IP instead of using MIB. You will get an OID of device, so then you can enter system name for this OID. After that you can indentify this system and have it recognized.

Note, that management of 3rd party devices using SNMP according to HP products may be poor in HP SIM (as far as i know this software, of course).

Re: Registration of MIB in HP SIM

Thanks for the details.

I've compiled using the command "mcompile" and registered the MIB using "mxmib" command.
