RHEL cmahostd and cmasm2d issues

Hi - Linux newbie here so please be patient. I have a RHEL 4.6 server running PSP 7.80. It has 0 CPU idle times and a consistent 98-99% wait time. Seems like three processes are always stuck in the D state and I cannot figure out how to disable them. The processes are:
cmahostd -p 15 -s OK
cmasm2d -p 30
cmasm2d -p 30

I have tried to remove the hpasm/hprsm packages but it fails with a "...cpqci is busy and cannot be removed". Cannot remove/disable the cpqci module either. Don't really know what to try next. Is a reboot the only option? I have also added cpqci, cmahostd and cmasm2d to the exclude line in /opt/compaq/cma.conf and restarted the hpasm service, but the D processes are still present.
