Scheduled Tasks - What they poll?

Hi guys

Any idea what these tasks actually poll?
1. Daily Device Identification?
2. Hardware Status Polling?
3. Data Collection?
4. Software Version Status Polling?

For Hardware Status Polling, there is alway selection of DMI, SNMP, HTTP and/or ICMP.
Whats the purpose of selecting the type of protocol?

Also, if I have just replaced a hardware in a server, which task should I run?
