Server Blade Removed & Server Blade Inserted alerts

Hi,

We have a p-class enclosure that is reporting false removals.

If I remove a blade from the enclosure, other servers in that enclosure report that they were removed, when they were not removed. The same thing happens if I insert the blade server.

Any ideas as to why this happens, and what the resolution is?

Thanks

First thing i would do is make sure all the Server Blade and Power Management Module Firmware is at the latest rev level of 2.40 (27 Jul 2007)

Re: Server Blade Removed & Server Blade Inserted alerts

Ed:

In the p-Class there is no intelligence in the infrastructure the way that c-Class has the Onboard Administrator. Because of this, the iLO on each blade is sort of a 'proxy' for the enclosure. When a blade is inserted or removed, this is noted by EVERY iLO in the enclosure and they trap on it. When HP SIM receives these multiple alerts, it compresses them into one. If you are using something other than HP SIM, it will appear that you are getting the alerts from every device in the enclosure.

Re: Server Blade Removed & Server Blade Inserted alerts

Martin - All Enclosures are at FW 2.40

David - Is there anyway of "fixing" this? I opened up a case with HP this morning and was told to do the following:

1. Please delete and then add the servers to the SIM console and check if the issue persist.

2. If in case the issue persist, please loggin to the management console(using a serial console) or check through the IML of the concerned Blade if the issue is correctly reported there.

3. Also I would like you to update the firmware for the management console and check if the issue exsist.

It's really operating as designed.

David - Are the fixes that the HP support rep gave me this morning actucally a waste of my time?

Re: Server Blade Removed & Server Blade Inserted alerts

When any blade is inserted or removed, every blade sends an alert. That is apparently working as designed. However, HP SIM is supposed to only reflect 1 event in the Event subsystem. The question is why your HP SIM isn't doing this. It could be because HP SIM hasn't properly identified and associated all the components. The steps given you by support could help complete that process.

Re: Server Blade Removed & Server Blade Inserted alerts

Hi All,

I tried the first step recommended:
1. Please delete and then add the servers to the SIM console and check if the issue persist.

After this was completed recycled the SNMP services on the server in question, and now SIM does not report back as seeing this server. I have tried to manually add the server back to SIM, but it still doesn't show. When I search for the server, it displays "The collection is empty"

Any suggestions to get these reporting back to SIM?

Thanks again for all the help..
