SIM 5.0 SP4 - Suspend monitoring only suspends alerting?

When we suspend monitoring on a device (i.e.a UPS that broadcasts a bad battery alert every 5 minutes) it only suspends paging/email alerting, but the events still show up in SIM.

Is this by design? I would think suspending monitoring a device would stop monitoring it for the specified time all together.
