SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

Since I installed sp 8.0.0.0 on my SIM server I've been having issues with the VCM. I've also had issues on another server with 8.0.0.0 where I do not get the System Management Homepage, unless I restart the service. Any one else having issues? At this time I've put the 8.0.0.0 deployment on hold.

I think I am having the same issue as you on one server that is hosting a VCRM. THe Systems Management Homepage randomly goes offline and becomes unesponsive.
All Version Control clients pointing to that affected server do not work until I restart the SMH service on the affected server.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

I have reinstalled parts of sp 7.91a on my SIM server. The System Management Home page, the Version Control Agent and the Server agents.
This has allowed my SIM server to deliver software updates again.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

We are having the same problems. We have deployed v 8.0 to two servers as test, and both of them keep failing, and we have to restart the HP System Hompage service for it to start working again.

I had the same problems too. Actually it started with upgrading SIM from 5.0 sp 5 to 5.2. We installed psp 8.0.0 and what a nightmare this has been. I'm currently downloading 7.91 and I will *not* deploy 8.00 until there is a fix.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

I had an open case with them and their suggestion was to install psp 7.91 as a resolution to the psp 8.00 installation failures I was having. They didn't give me a reason why. They did suggest once 7.91 was installed and working, to go ahead and upgrade to 8.00. I'm staying with 7.91 until people say 8.00 actually works.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

Has anyone found a solution to this? We have the same problem. SMH stops working unless you restart the service, but stops working again eventually. The SIM server no longer detects the VCA on client servers.

Is anyone from HP out there? How about some feedback?

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

Has anyone else noticed that this is only a PSP 8 issue? If you install from any earlier PSP and upgrade the drivers there are no problems? What's up with that?

Does anyone have an answer on what specific drivers have to be back-revved for this to work or do you really have to load PSP 7.91 to get the cure?

thanks.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

Hi,

I believe HP is aware of this issue and is working on a fix per this post:

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1214736

There is a problem with VCA and SIM 5.2 which HP recently released a fix for. But you are running SIM 5.1, so I am not sure what issue is there for you.

My experience is that less than half of our servers that were running an earlier Support Paq are ok with 8.0.

All of our new servers that were built with 8.0 are having the problem though.

That is what I am seeing. Hopefull HP has a fix soon. We dont have time to roll back the ones we did.
Thanks.

Re: SIM 5.1 with sp 8.0.0.0 issues

From JD13...this would problably explain why you are not seeing it on all servers:

Additional bit of information that I have found for those who may be interested or communicating directly with HP:

If I log onto one of the affected servers with Remote Desktop using the /console switch or log on using the local KVM interface, then log off, SMH becomes unresponsive after logoff and requires a service restart. If I log on to one of the affected systems with Remote Desktop and do NOT use the /console switch, logoff does not render SMH unresponsive. I have tested this repeatedly on all my systems that have been upgraded to SMH v2.1.11.197 and it is consistent on ALL of them.

This may be a work-around for some making it unnecessary to go through the hassle of manually uninstalling SMH with file deletes and registry edits, until HP provides a fixed version.
