SIM failed to get the hostname by DNS
Hello,
our sim works fine until for 3 weeks.
When I discover a new host: The hostname is ignored. Only IP adress is listed in the table. The DNS connection is correct: In the command window with 'ping -a' and nslookup the host is solved correctly. With the command mxgethostname -n "ip address" it will failed. But when I make an entry in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
the command mxgethostname get the hostname correctly.
Why dont ask the sim application our DNS server?
The SIM is the 5.1 version on Windows XP.
Thanks
Udo Hillenbrand

Re: SIM failed to get the hostname by DNS
HPSIM needs both forward and reverse dns lookups to be correct.
From the HPSIM Server do an nslookup of the IP Address and then use the name returned and do an nslookup of that.
