SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I have a server loaded with Windows 2003 Enterprise and Command View and using an EVA4000. How can I get SIM to see my EVA? I do get reports from the EVA on failures since I have SNMP configured. SIM just sees this server as another server.
TIA

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

HPSIM uses wbem / SMI-S to get the EVA information via the CommandView Server.
When CV EVA was installed it would have also installed the SMI-S connector. You would have entered a password for this.

In HPSIM check wbem is enabled in the global settings, you don't need any credentials there.
Again from HPSIM Select the server (use the link from System Name) and from the Tools & Links tab select System Protocol settings. Under wbem enter administrator as the account and the SMI-S password. Note this is not the local Administrator Account, it is the SMI-S account.
There are a couple of utilities to help diagnosis - wbemdisco is the best. If you search through these forums you'll find more threads on this subject.

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I have doubts about this solution:
1) I have Command View EVA 6.02 but I don't have a service called "SMI..." or "HP SMI..."
2) during installation nothing ask me to enter a password (SMI password).
How can I solve?

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I tried to list CIM users with cimuser.exe -l but the list is empty

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I found a service called "HP StorageWorks SMI-S CIMServer" but I cannot let it work!
cimuser.exe -l report is empty, cimauth.exe -l report is empty: does it means i do not have a configured CIM user?

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I am on CV5 and reinstalled the SIM components from CD. The directory was called hpSMISEVA_5_0. May be different for 6.

This reset it all up but SIM still does not list my EVA anywhere.

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

In previous version I always had to do various things to make SMI-S work, like reinstall components, swear and curse.

But in 6.xx the installation process seems a lot smoother, everything has worked for me right out of the box.

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

I made a double check on another EVA management connected with a different EVA and all seems work fine.
I think that the problem is on the management hardware: the one which work is a DL360 instead the other EVA management which don't work is a DL145 (not supporto by support pack...and all HP agents).
Command View versions are the same (6.0)
It seems HP support pack agents are needed to let Command View CIM work...don't know why but it seems so.

Re: SIM not reporting CommandView server correctly

CV 5 and the included SMI-S v5 had real problems integrating with HPSIM.

I'm running CV 6.0.2 and that has worked out of the box (as per Ole's description) here as well.

You do need to get the HPSIM side set up correctly, the main items are that wbem is enabled globally and that you have the correct wbem settings entered in the server specific section for the server that hosts CV.

wbemdisco should help in checking connectivity.

I'm not aware of any requirements to have the HPSIM agents involved. Our CV Server is an HP Proliant and has the agents, but I'm not sure this is a requirement.
