SIM on Linux & PostgresSQL

I see it is necesary to install the bundled database when instalin SIM on Linux. Has anyone managed to avoid this or does anyone know when will HP support using any existing database installation instead of replacing it (i.e. like using existing SQL2000 on Windows)?
