SIM Setup/Install/Configure Questions
Hi, i'm looking for some advice and help.
We are a small IT Networking Group who maintain around 100 or so cleints remotly from our office.
We have supplied around 2 HP Proliant Server's to each of the clients, mainly Windows 2003.
Our office as VPN Tunnel's to all the sites for remote admin/checking etc etc.
Currently when we need to check a server we dial into the server from our office using either PCAnywher or RDP and open up the HP Systems Management Home Page to check the server health.
After doing much reading i understand that the HP SIM will be able to all of this automatically and let us know if there are any problems by email.
So in a nut shell i thik it works like this:
I've checked the docs and it seems extremly confusing.
Is their a Qucik Setup Quide anywhere on the basic instructions available for me.
Here's what i think i need:
What elements do i need to install ?
What ports do i need to open up on our and client firewalls?
What needs to be configired on Client servers?
What exactly needs to be installed on Client Servers?
Where do i configure Email Alerts Etc ?
Hope you can see what i'm trying to do here?
Thanks

Re: SIM Setup/Install/Configure Questions
Hi Roger,
The pre-requisites for HP SIM server are:
* MSDE or SQL database.
* Latest Proliant Support Pack on the server.
* 500 MB recommended free disk space
* Any HP ProLiant x86 system
Refer this for more info:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4498/ch02s02.html?btnNext=next%A0%BB
Refer this for installing the software:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4498/ch03s01.html?btnPrev=%AB%A0prev
After installation make changes in the settings:
* WBEM
* SNMP
Refer this:
http://docs.hp.com/en/T2786-90030/ch03s04.html
You may have referred this but this is the simplest document instruction you would be able to find.
If you need a HP SIM user manual then refer this:
http://h10018.www1.hp.com:80/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/hpsim_userGuide.pdf
Hope this explains!!!!!!
Regards,
rmn
