SIM SNMP Test Trap

Is there a way to generate a test trap on each server that I have added to SIM? I'm especially questioning some of our servers that are missing some fields (such as OS Name or Product Name). Any mechanism for sending a test trap would definitely help me sleep at night and give me the confidence to say that each server is being monitored.

Re: SIM SNMP Test Trap

On an individual basis, jump to one System Home Page. Tab 2 = Settings. Choice 2 = SNMP Configuration. Scroll to bottom, press "Send Trap".
On a bulk basis, I don't know how from HPSIM. But unix provides a few methods which could be used in scripts:
trapsend c-string gen-trap spec-trap
snmptrap -c c-string node gen-trap spec-trap time
For example snmptrap -v 2c .1.3.6.1.4.1.3018 .1.3.6.1.4.1.232 s "3018"

Re: SIM SNMP Test Trap

On Windows based servers you can also do it from the HP Management Agents GUI located in Control Panel.

Re: SIM SNMP Test Trap

With M$ machines, you can also use Trapgen.exe.
I run it every hour from one monitored server to make sure the SIM server is able to receive/manage traps and send an eMail.

Re: SIM SNMP Test Trap

There is a checkbox in Configure or Repair Agents that lets you select sending a test event back to HP SIM.
