SNMP Community Strings
How to set traps and get data from a particular community only.
Is that possible to clear the the entries of device (unknown ) and to view the only particular community devices only.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
The Server sending the traps sends to a specific community name.
SIM can be configured to use certain SNMP Community names. So, you should be able to do away with the default Public Read Only community name.
In HPSIM, SNMP Settings are under Options / Protocol Settings / Global Protocol Settings

Re: SNMP Community Strings
If i create a community it will this capture information related to that particular mentioned community only.
Where as in device Information in first screen of CIM it shows all devices with respect to that we have mentioned the community string. any way to see devices in a particular community only.
Is is possible to create a event report for a particular community.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
You can set up Server List for a selected group of Servers. Then you can select reports using this list, or even provide views to users with just this list of servers.
I don't know a way of being able to change what Servers can be viewed by changing the SNMP settings.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
As per i know yes Community string can be utilized as a database selection String. Where as you have mentioned regarding 'Server Role' field in the agents. Where as i am using Agent Version 5.00 H3 I am not able to get any such option for selection. I need you inputs to proceed on same.
Hi Rob Buxton,
I am still working on SNMP Community Strings setting, but failed to do so till now. Where is i open agent info by http://talisman:2301/ i am able to acess the information. Where the information which is shown is online. If SQL store the same information in database then if server is off can we view details offline. Secondry part is you said " Server list for a selected group of Servers. " What i am concentrating on is a community it consist of for example 13 Servers and 23 Compaq Desktops. So we cannot select by the process as you have suggested because it will list out PC's and show only servers. So, the purpose is not solved. Where as can Proliant ML 150 and DL 140 be managed using IM7.
I am thank full for you reply and efforts and even still i am working on same to get results.
My Regards.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
Server role only appeared recently, in the 6.1 agents I believe. However, you should be at minimum running 6.4 because all known security vulnerabilities are addressed in that version. You may want to use the even more recent 7.0 version since it addresses some technical issues (SAN tape libraries are one of the notable mentions).
Regarding the DL140, it provides only basic management capabilities. In the case of IM7, this would only include a basic up/down indication through an SNMP poll. When used with hpSIM, however, configuration data can be collected through WMI and distributed tasks can be executed through SSH. If you are going to have DL140 systems in your environment, you should definitely use hpSIM.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
If you set up a new System List it can include any devices that have been discovered by Insight Manager.
You'll be able to report on or view them as a single entity.
The amount of information available will be different depending on whether it's a Server or Workstation.

Re: SNMP Community Strings
Just a note, you should really open a new thread rather than append a query like this to an old one.
