SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

I've installed SSH on about 15 W2K or W2K3 servers so far, so I thought I'd run into just about every problem there was. But I'm running into a problem in a W2K server. I installed OpenSSH just like any other server, and was able to ssh from the command-line to the SIM server and the reverse. I can also ssh directly to the managed server itself.

When I attempt MXAGENTCONFIG, it fails to establish the connection. I'm getting the event "The host key supplied was not valid" on the managed system. I have re-installed SSH on the managed system, and I suspect this is what prompted the invalid key. But I need some help understanding what key is passed to the managed system, and how to correct it.

Thanks for your help.

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

Just FYI - I've got an open case, and now I'm sure this is a bug. Will keep you posted.

Hi Scott, just to let you know you're not the only one thats getting this on a win2k server.

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

Don't give up - I actually just got off the phone with them. Their developers were able to reproduce the problem. They thought they had a workaround, but it did not work on the two machines I tried it on.

Should have an update Friday.

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

Scott, what happens if you click on your CMS inside of SIM? I get this under management protocols:

SSH:Access Denied -- host key may have changed, SMH:1

Just wondering if that's tied in or something.

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

No, I get this:

WBEM:2.6, SNMP:1.0, SSH:SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.7.1p1, SMH:1

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

Scott, after working with another HP user on this in my other thread we seem to have found a solution. If you go into your knwon_keys file in "c:\Program Files\HP\System Information Manager\config\sshtools\" then delete the keys out of there that pretain to your server, restart OpenSSH, and HP SIM, then run the app on the server and have it reidentify yourself you should be ok. Or at least thats what I did and mine works just fine now.

OK, I'll try it. Thanks for sharing.

Re: SSH: "The host key supplied was not valid"

I tried it, but it did not work for me. There was one difference though - the event log says that the password was accepted. Previously when I tried this, it said the "Host Key Supplied Was Not Valid".
