Sun Hardware running Windows Server 2003 and HPSIM

We have a few SUN x4200 servers running Windows Server 2003.

We have hundreds of HP servers managed via HPSIM.

Is there a way to monitor the SUN hardware with HPSIM. Note that we don't have any SUN mibs.

Can the HP agents be installed (at least some of them) on the SUN servers? If so, how? Just try to run a support pack on the SUN servers?

The Sun systems will be manageable only to the extent that Sun makes them manageable through industry standards such as SNMP and WBEM. If there are no MIBs available for Sun, then they are not producing a manageable product.

Re: Sun Hardware running Windows Server 2003 and HPSIM

Well by installing SNMP on the SUN X4200 servers and configuring it for our HPSIM environment, I'm able to get basic connectivity -- server reachable, unreachable alerts (and cold start).

Would I get more than that by trying to install an HP support pack -- we have no Mibs from SUN for these servers (yet).

Or must I use SUN mibs for more?

The ProLiant Support Pack is for ProLiant servers only. In the absence of a Sun-provided management agent, you might be able to collect some more config data from it using WBEM/WMI since you're running WS03.

Re: Sun Hardware running Windows Server 2003 and HPSIM

How do I do WBEM or WMI with HPSIM?

I only have used SNMP -- not sure how to do this with HP servers (not to mention SUN servers).

Any tips on how to do WBEM or WMI for the SUN servers -- what do I need?
