System Management Homepage - Serial Number

I've got several servers that either report garbage for the serial number or "null". I've restarted the SNMP service and agents with no affect. My gut response is to update the system firmware to latest revision and apply the latest PSP to ensure the agents are functioning properly, but this will require the necessary downtime and coordination to complete. Is there any other way to interrogate the server to get it to cough up the correct serial number? Thank you.

Re: System Management Homepage - Serial Number

Updating the PSPs and FW is a good start but you can also use any SNMP GET utility that you are comfortable with in get the serial number.
If I looked at it right the OID is enterprises.232.2.2.2.5.0

You can also check the SMH to see what serial number it reports.

What HW and OS are you having problems with?

Sorry, ment to say SIM (Systems Insight Manager) instead of SMH on the last post. See if SIM reports that same NULL or garbled serial number the SMH reports.

Re: System Management Homepage - Serial Number

This is likely caused by having motherboard replacements and the tech not programming the electronic serial number. Select one you can reboot, and if pre-G2 with System Partition Utilities, select [F10] at boot, otherwise, post-G2 use [F9] to go into RBSU.

Re: System Management Homepage - Serial Number

These are the ProLiant ML370 G1's running Windows Server 2003 SE. The SIM console is offline right now because it had gone little psychotic and I planned on replacing it with the latest version of SIM. I'll try the SNMP GET, but I'll have to check to make sure the SNMP services are even configured properly first. Thank you.
