System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

In my 2003 servers, using PSP 7.10, where snmp is set up correctly and all services started, I see "Null" at the top right of the homepage for each server where it is looking for "system model".

Anyone know how to fix this? Everything else seems to be working fine. But for some reason it doesn't want to report the System Model.

Note that I am not looking at this via the Insight Manager console -- this is on the server itself. Using the HP sytem management home page link from start/programs while on the server itself.

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

Oh, and the model is Proliant DL 380G4

That is what should show up, but instead it says "null".

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

hi,
There is a similar issue where the model is UNKNOWN. http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=805954

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

I don't think its the same issue.

Also, I can't really find a definitive suggestion in that thread.

Anyone seen "null" before -- and fixed it?

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

I had some servers reporting NULL or Unknown and I resolved by reinstalling/updating the System Management Homepage using the Version Control Agent...

YOu mean the entire support pack -- right? You can't just install the home page???

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

Eric, you are using SS7.10, starting in SS7.20 the System Management Homepage became a component in the PSP. So starting in SS7.20 and later - you can just upgrade or install the SMH by itself. I might have suspected some upgrade issue with the new SMH but you are using 7.10 so you are not using the new SMH. The only other thing that I can think of would be an SNMP misconfiguration, I see that you have checked that so you might consider a PSP or at least an Agent reinstall to see if it has an effect.

If you happen to be using the latest HPSIM console it has a new feature called Configure or Repair Agent settings - if you are using it you might look at running that feature from HPSIM against this system to see if it can correct any misconfigured settings with the agents.

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

I mean just installing the System Management Homepage, not the entire Support Pack again. You can go to the Version Control Agent page and click the link on the left that reads "show additional items in the repository" and then scroll down until you see the link for "HP System Management Homepage for Windows". Reinstalling this has resolved similar problems that I've had with the System Management homepage...

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

I called in the same problem to Compaq and they had no idea. I upgraded the bios on the machine and it fixed it. Same issues (g4, Null) and in Insight Manager 4.2 it says Unknown HP SNMP device.

Re: System Model: "NULL" (on System Management Home Page)

Open up the Device Manager and look at the system devices. If you've got an exclamation point on the Advanced System Management Driver then you will get NULL for a system model. Right click on the controller and select uninstall. Then add the controller back to the server using the add hardware wizard. We maintain over 5000 Windows Proliant servers in the United States. We've seen this problem alot.

Another item to look for is a duplicate controller driver. Windows 2003 contains an older version of the Compaq Advanced System Management Controller Driver. When you install the PSP, Windows doesn't always upgrade this device. In some cases it will create a duplicate of the controller under system devices. If you have a duplicate remove the one with the Microsoft driver. Having a duplicate with 2 different driver versions will also throw the agents for a loop and make them report NULL.
