Turning off Paging Temporarily for Select Devices

Hi,

I was very glad to see the new option provided in Insight Agents 7.2 where you can temporarily disable monitoring on a per device basis. However, I would also like to see a link to allow monitoring while disabling Paging/or eMail for selected items.

We monitor over 900 devices, over 26 different offices across the nation. There are times, where I don't want to get paged, yet I want to be able to see Event Log in HP SIM, especially during server maintenance.

Does anyone else share my needs?

Thanks!!!

Re: Turning off Paging Temporarily for Select Devices

We have similar requirements for test lab and sandbox servers. Our workaround may or may not work for you.

We have 2 tasks - one to email the group and one to email the on-call pager. The tasks are similar except in the "Select Systems" screen, we test the contents of "Contact". If it contains "no page", only the email to the group goes out.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Turning off Paging Temporarily for Select Devices

That is exactly what I have been doing for the time being. However, due to the large number of devices we monitor, I've had to lump them together in a per device type/region/tech fashion (i.e., Servers Region 1-Edwin-Pager, Servers Region 2-Charles-Pager, etc.). The same setup goes for the email tasks.

I had to do this, otherwise I would've had to setup over 400 event tasks for paging and email so all our 8 network guys would get pages or email for the servers for all 26 locations.

And that is w/o counting the LAN switches that HP SIM monitors as well. I think you probably get the picture now.

That is why I had posted this "wish" for HP to address this issue in the next version Insight Agents, just as they did for the Suspending of monitoring devices.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I can see I am not the only one w/ this dilemma. As they say... misery loves company.

Thanks!!!
