Unable to access Insight Manager
I noticed that the authentication change from HP IM to MS authentication. so we tried all the combinations of user accounts (including local admin) and various ways (domain\username or username, pw, domain) of logging in but no luck (also tried local admin).
checked this forum and verified the remote login IE java version (1.4.2_02) and the local server's IE java version (1.4.2) but still unable to log into the IM home page (we've changed nothing in the java plug-in control panel - defaults). we can log into the system manger home page but it's still using the HP authentication. the IM services is using the local admin account like it always has...
any ideas on why we can't log in or is there way to reset authentication back to use the HP accounts?

Re: Unable to access Insight Manager
https://Servername:50000 is how you access HPSIM. The login to this should not have changed, you should get the same HPSIM Page that has Username, Password and Domain. There should be only one of these.
To login to a 7.20A IM Agent, you'd use https://Servername:2381 and then the Login Screen would give Username & Password boxes, for this you can use the Domain\Username for the Username.
For older IM Agents you login using the inbuilt accounts of Administrator/Operator/User and use the passwords configured in them.

Re: Unable to access Insight Manager
I did mention that the problem of logging into HPSIM started happening when we did upgrade to 7.20a..but that is correct, the login page or method we used for HPSIM (port 50000) did not change, just that none of the user accounts that could log in, now cannot.
I can get into HP Sys Mgt (port 2381)but this uses a different authentication process then HPSIM.
None of our accounts could log on and after checking this forum, we tried a couple of more methods (domain\user name) to re-gain access to HPSIM.
But still not luck...
any ideas?

Re: Unable to access Insight Manager
Can you log in with the account HPSIM was originally installed under?
I'm not sure how the PSP update would have affected the HPSIM login.
When you browse to HPSIM from your workstation do you get the correct HPSIM login page?
What does the rejection message look like?

Re: Unable to access Insight Manager
we tried the orginal setup account and any other account that had worked before.
HP agents update, windows server patching and veritas netbackup client was installed (with it's version of java plug in), and password changes of all admin accounts in the past two months.
it was sometimes after these changes that someone tried to log into HPSIM and got the same message we all get (those who could log in) of:
"Invalid login, Please try again" at the top of the web page...
we tried from several different workstations and of course locally but same results. we all get the same page and rejection.
the HPSIM has a sql 2k db that runs on a different server but same domain. When we do a trace on the SIM DB to see what hits it during log-in attempts, it shows the failed attempt and then generates a typical failed login attempt alert. It continues to process our SNMP trap alerts and such but we can't log into the SIM to manage it..

Re: Unable to access Insight Manager
IM 7 also used the domain for password validation as long as those accounts had been created in CIM 7.
One thing, CIM 7 needed a 1.3 version of the JRE and will not work with any 1.4 variant.
You can have multiple versions of the JRE installed, you need to ensure that under IE Advanced Options the Java (Sun) User JRE... is NOT checked. This should allow the application to select the JRE it needs, rather than what the browser has set.
