Unable to login to Management Agents with XP and IE6

I am trying to login to the the Management Agents on NT-Servers and Netware 5.1 Servers and i always get the same message: "This browser is not going to be able to log into the HP web-based management software on this system". It doesn't matter how low i set up the security of my browser or how i set the trust relationship (right now it is on "trust all". All my Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Servers work just fine. It also works to login to the NT and the Netware-Servers via Netscape.

There are some problems with IE trying to browse to servers with an underscore character in the server name. Would the systems you are having problems logging into have an "_", underscore, in the name?

I've the same problem. Some of the servers' name have an "_". When I tried to access those servers by enter "https://The_servername:2381". I've gotten the error: "This browser is not going to be able to log into the HP web-based management software on this system."
When I used the IP address of those servers instead, I can login successfuly.
What can I do?

Hello Rich

Yes, these Servers have names with underscores. Is there a solution or a workaround ?

Re: Unable to login to Management Agents with XP and IE6

I've had the same problem with server names containing underscores, and the only workaround is to use the IP address instead of the computer name when browsing to the server (i.e., http://10.1.2.1:2301)

Good luck,

Re: Unable to login to Management Agents with XP and IE6

From the MS knowledge base:

Security patch MS01-055 prevents servers with improper name syntax from setting cookies names. Domains that use cookies must use only alphanumeric characters ("-" or ".") in the domain name and the server name. Internet Explorer blocks cookies from a server if the server name contains other characters, such as an underscore character ("_").
