Unable to mark events as repaired from the SMH and the Integrated Management Log.

Unable to mark events as repaired from the SMH and the Integrated Management Log.

When accessing a server via the SMH, I attempt to mark events in the IML as repaired and receive the following error message.

"The set attempt failed. There are several possible reasons for this to happen. Performing sets that require a community string with set access be present on the system. Sets must be enabled in the HP Management Agents. To reboot the system, reboot must be explicitly enabled in the HP Management Agents."

I have over 1,500 servers and on most I can mark as repaired however, some will not allow me to. Whether it is remotely through SMH or logged on locally through SMH, it will not let me do so. All are configured the same with the same SNMP settings, etc. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Most likely you have not established a write community string on the servers in question and/or have not enabled SNMP sets. Use 'Configure or Repair Agents' in HP SIM to correct your configuration issues.

Re: Unable to mark events as repaired from the SMH and the Integrated Management Log.

Thanks for the tip although I had in previous troubleshooting checked this. I checked the SNMP settings and I do have a WRITE community string already configured which is standard on all of our servers. Even so, I ran the Configure and Repair on one server and it had no impact other than to prompt me for logon credentials when accessing SMH when it did not before. It still would not allow me to 'repair' log entries.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

You could try going through the GUI, Control Panel -> HP Management Agents and see if you can clear the entries there.
If you can it does seem to point back to the SNMP settings.

If you are referring to clearing the threasholds, I have done that but it does not mark the entries as repaired in the IML.

Apologies, not thinking straight - from Programs -> HP System Tools -> HP Integrated Management Log Viewer. Under Log are a number of options regarding the IML.

Re: Unable to mark events as repaired from the SMH and the Integrated Management Log.

Rob and David,

Thanks for the tips, but after mucking around for around I found the that the solution was to enable the SNMP Sets from within the SMH>Settings>SNMP & Agents Settings. Enable SNMP Sets and Restart the Agents. I was able to mark as repaired and entries and even clear entries as needed.

Thanks again for your assistance.
