User Accounts - Confused

OK, I have upgraded to SIM 4.2 and the new System Home Page (on the CMS server).

I am now totally confused as to what it refers to in the docs when talking about accounts.

Previously, I set up the WBEM settings through Global Protocols to use an account called administrator. This worked very well for monitoring servers and runing the VCA etc.

Now when I try to log in to SMH on the CMS it looks like its using the domain/user account settings.

Also, when trying to deploy PSPs or use VPM etc whenever it refers to accounts it talks about THE administrator account. Now is this the old-style WBEM administrator account or the original administrator account on the Winddows box (which we rename straight away after install) or any account with admin rights??

I'm totally confused with the whole thing. I've tried running PSP deployments since upgrading and they just time out - I'm presuming because it can't authenticate properly.

I'm also confused as to what account settings I should be putting in my SSH passd file now.

Any light shed on this would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Re: User Accounts - Confused

Upgraded or a new install of HPSIM?

For the initial use of HPSIM; SSH & WBEM can be ignored.
Additional Accounts can be created using the Options/Security/Authorizations and Users Page.
This allows different levels of access to the CMS.
HPSIM can be used at this point, Discovery etc. will work.

SSH is set up on the CMS Server to allow Custom Commands to run. You'll need to deploy SSH to other Servers if you want Custom Commands to be able to be run on those Servers from the CMS. It's not necessary for general HPSIM Operation.

WBEM Access, depends on what Servers you've got, but it seems as though this is needed for the new CPM to work.

The Management Agent on the CMS, there's been a big change here, Authorization is changing from the old 3 accounts controlled by the app. to authentication by the System.
This also affects how the VCA/VCRM works.
I've added our domain\domainadmins as a Group and created a local account for the VCA and added that.
