VCRM does not catalog anything

Hi,

i have installed HPIM Sp2 on W2K3. It works great except the VCRM and i dont know what to do.
I downloaded the Proliant Support pack 7.0a and put it in one empty directory. The directory is read/write -able by the local system account. Well i configured the options and i waited but nothing changed.
what could it be?
please help

cheers,

Re: VCRM does not catalog anything

Hi,

- The Version Control Repository Manager Service has to run on the HPIM Server.
- The Version Control Agent must run on all managed servers.

- The Repository Manager must be configured to use and validate the folder where the support pack is in.

- The Agents must be configured to the Server where the Repository Manager is.
- The Support Pack 7.a must be configured as "baseline"

- Software Version Status Polling Task must be active

You will see the servers not meeting the baseline criteria indoicated yellow, orange or red in HPIM-Main Windoww under SW-Status.

- If you want to distribute new sps you have to set up a task in HPIM.

Re: VCRM does not catalog anything

well thanks but my problem is that VCRM catalogues nothing without dieing in an error...

what do you mean with "The Support Pack 7.a must be configured as "baseline""?

Re: VCRM does not catalog anything

To realize which software is outdated cim needs a reference. eg.: you have a server with support pack 5.0 installed on a server and the "baseline" would be 7.0. If CIM would not know that your actual level is 7.0. he could ne validate that 5.0. is outdated.

Regarding your question:

The Support Pack needs th be integrated in Version Control Repository Manager.
That means he must know to use the folder you described and validate the support pack the it contains...do you get any error messages?

Re: VCRM does not catalog anything

Hi Lukas,

how do you download the files. The two possibilities are the automatic download via the internet or the manual upload of support-packs.

1.) Automatic download:
For this you need a trust from the HPSIM to the VCRM. You can check this via the Options menue entry "Version Control Repository". The trust must be set to yes (see screenshot 01).
The trick is that the VCRM downloads only needed packages. For this it needs the information which operating systems and servers are in place at your company. If the trust doesn't exist you only get a message that the download was successful and now files are downloaded.
You can configure the trust via the HP Managment Agents on the server where the VCRM is running on (See Screenshot 02 and 03). You can access the page via https://your-vcrm-server:2381.
When the trust is ready and the automatic download settings are correct the repository should be filled up with all necessary files.

02) Manual upload the files to the repository:

You can't simply copy the files to the repository folder. Instead you have to use the corresponding function in the VCRM menue (accessible via https://your-vcrm-server:2381/vcrepository, see screenshot 04).

Afterwards you should be able to configure the VCAs an your servers for a software baseline (https://your-servers:2381/vcagent).

Re: VCRM does not catalog anything

Correcting a post in the thread--

The VCRM does NOT have to reside on the hpSIM or IM7 server. It can be located anywhere and in fact you can have several repositories located in different places. A common need for that is with an Insight Manager managing systems in a WAN. The status traffic is negligible, but you may not want software loads going over the WAN, so you place a VCRM at each of your remote locations.
