VCRM is killing me!!!

Ok,

I am tasked with setting up for the first time the SIM as well as the VCRM for automating our Bios and firmware updates. I have installed the SIM Successfully ( so I think) and I am trying to set up one of our servers to be the repository manager. I attempt to do an update and it tells me in the log that an update is being run but when I go to the repository folder, there is never anything in it! I have tried three times to no avail.
I don't understand what I am missing!!! Please help..

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

I've always installed the VCRM on the same server as HPSIM, but that shouldn't make a difference.

I also download stuff manually. I create a top level directory which the VCRM is pointed to and below that sub-directories for the individual PSPs (makes tidy ups easier) and a separate sub-directory for firmware downloads.

It's been a while since I've looked at the auto download side, so it may have improved, but it pulled down too much for me.

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

a few points that may help you:
- I have always setup the VCRM on the same server as the HP-SIM and it worked fine always - i have no experience with running the VCRM on a separate server
- Do not create subfolders into the VCRM repository directory: this does not help at all because everything that is being downloaded from HP is put on a flat level in that VCRM root directory.
- I've read somewhere that before being able to download stuff from HP, the VCRM repository manager must first know which kind of hardware and software is being managed - so a successfully inventory of managed servers and successfull VCA connection to VCRM must happening in your environment prior to be able to automatically download stuff from HP

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

Hello,

Have you configure your proxy correctly?
You have a test connexion to check if the connexion is successful?
Have you try an internet connexion from your VCRM server?

Cheers,

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

Hello All,

Thanks for the response.

-I do have SIM installed on the same server as the VCRM

-I do have an internet connection and everything. I have a web filter appliance that filters http traffic but not anything else. I have checked the logs and i know for a fact that this isn't interfering.

-
There has been an inventory on the SIM run and the SIM is running correctly i believe. I have used the sim for some reports and such...

Dumb question probably, but how do I download manuely?

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

Ensure a VCA checks into the VCRM. Go to a VCA (from the SMH). Do you see two rows of data in the VCA one is current and the other new? New may be empty but that's ok. Now go to the VCRM and tell it to Update from HP Now.

If you give up the manual way is to go to HP.COM and D/L the file one by one and copy them into the repositoy the VCRM will unpack them.

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

Gordon's point of assigning at least one VC Agent to use the VCRM server you've configured is valid, as VCRM needs to know what type of clients to download updates for.

To manually upload a Support Pack to VCRM first download a Proliant Support Pack from HP (specify an appropriate server model and OS in the Software & Driver Downloads section and the current support pack for that model will be listed under Software - Support Pack - or you can pull a less current PSP off the Smartstart CD that came with your server). Once downloaded, run the downloaded executable to unzip the PSP to a specified directory. Within the VCRM browser window click Upload a Support Pack in the upper left under the home tab, browse to the directory you unzipped the PSP to and follow the instructions on the screen.

Re: VCRM is killing me!!!

You need only to drop the PSP EXE into the repositoy the VCRM will extract. Also remember the PSP does not have firmware so you need to go out and grap that also. Like the PSP just copy the firmware EXE into the repositoy. [Get the Fimware that says for use with HPSUM].
