Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello.

I have setup a version control repository on the HP SIM server.

The HP SIM CRM does have a trusted connection to the VCR (same virtuell server).

But when I try to check the contents of the selceted version control repository at the HP SIM CRM, I get followering message:

Error retrieving repository. Ensure the VCRM is installed and running. Be sure a trust relationship is established with the repository device.

At the VCRM Log i get following entry:

Unknown Request

Any Ideas how to solve the problem?

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello,

Can you connect to the SMH of the server without typing your credentials ? So i short is there a working trust ? You should be redirected without suplying credentials.

Kind regards,

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello.

Single sign on works from the HP SIM crm. I got redirected automatically.

As i mentioned before, trust is not the problem.

I have had also rebuilt the repository.

Hello,

Is the repositoryselected in SIM under Deploy > Software/Firmware Baselines > Manage Software/Firmware Baselines.

Select Default Version Control Repository....

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello,

You could try to reinstall the VCRM software. Is the VCRM  reachable from the SMH?

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Reinstalling the VCR was my first step.. It did not solve the problem.

I have also tried another repository on a different server. Same problem...

Are there any logs at the HP SIM server i could check?

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Did you point to an existing repository or did you start from scratch? I'll have a look for a logfile and reply again.

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello.

I have started from scratch.

I have reinstalled the VCR now, but with the same bad result.

Error retrieving repository. Ensure the Version Control Repository Manager (VCRM) is installed and running. Be sure a trust relationship is established with the repository device. Finally, the VCRM may not respond if it is in the process of updating its catalog. In this case simply try again later

Trust is OK between HP SIM and VCR. Single sign on works, HP SIM checks a trusted relation to the VCR

Both are on the same Server.

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Is the VCRM server cataloging itself when your checking it? check under the VCRM logs, Restart SIM service if VCRM is not cataloging.

Maybe this is the cause of the problem..?

The only software pack i got at the VCR is the Service Pack for Proliant. Should the HP SIM recognize this as Baseline or do I have to built a custom Baseline?

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

YOu only seem to have one SPP loaded so this is the only baseline. You can use this baseline in SIM to assign this to servers or if you still use VCA to select this as the only baseline. You can upload any SPP you need or enable the autodownload. I always place my SPP's in separate directories in the Repository directory so i can keep them apart.

This way i can delete folders as soon as i don't need older SPP's.

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Sorry, but this is not my root problem about VCR..

The HP SIM does not see the VCR Catalog.

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

So when you go to Deploy > Software/Firmware Baselines > Manage Software.Firmware Baselines and select the Select Default Version Control Repository you don't see the attached screenshot.screen.png

And in the Middle the OK button ?

Did you also try this : https://localhost:2381/vcrepository or the servername in the URL?

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

This is working with single sign on.

https://localhost:2381/vcrepository

I got a correct working trust HP SIM <> VCR (same VM)

Solution

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

Hello.

I have contact the HP Support and I could finally solve the problem.

There was in fact a Trusted Relationship problem..

The Option at the SSO Settings > Set trust relationship to "trust by certificate" made the change.

As per the screenshots provided found that trust is not established yet between SMH and SIM server and there is error in retrieving repository.

Please follow the steps below in SIM first to isolate if trust is only causing the issue, however ensure customer is using valid credentials again.

In SIM, Re-identify the SIM/VCRM server by setting up Trust relationship to "Trust by Certificate" under SSO category as well as shown below, similarly in SMH also set trust mode to Certificate.

 1.jpg

This part was not necceray for me anymore.

Then re-identify the SIM server under Options>>Identify Systems and check the task results. If still issue persists check the following:

n  Can the repository be opened from client or managed servers?

n  Is SIM/VCRM upgraded from previous versions and issue is seen or its completely new setup?

n  Login to HP SIM, Under Options>> Security >>System Link Configuration>> Use the System IP Address and now  try connecting to VCRM

n  In SIM Under Options>>Software/Firmware>>Version Control Repository, If there is following error in retrieving repository, check:

n  Edit the following line in the c:\Program Files\HP\System Insight Manager\config\globalsettings.props file. (alter the path based on where HP SIM is installed.)

http_request_timeout=15 and change the 15 to something larger, like 60 seconds.

After that enter "mxconfigrefresh " from the command-line prompt on the HP SIM CMS, which will tell HP SIM to reread the globalsettings.props file .

Alternately you can reduce the size of the data kept in the VCRM.

n    Login to SMH>>VCRM>>Catalog and then select Rescan Repository.

n  Once the rescan is complete, login to SIM

n  Re-identify the SIM server itself, and check if still errors seen.

n  From the screenshots provided found there is only one SPP uploaded in Repository, so uninstall and reinstall only VCRM and check with one SPP again.

n  As we have seen issues in VCRM when configured on VM, try to install VCRM on another VM or physical server, then try to connect to the repository.

Re: Version Control Repository - Error retrieving repository

I kept having this problem but it was down to having too many Proliant Service Packs in the repository. I simply deleted the oldest ISOs and kept the latest three - roughly as per this article: HPE Version Control Repository Release Notes
