Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

Software version status unknown: VC Agent not configured. have ? appearing against every server except the Insight server. This was all working fine when the Insight software was installed a couple of months ago. Nothing has changed and now this ridiculous error. Tried to push out support pack 7.20A to a server and get the message 'Unable to login to insight. The login account or password is invalid'. Well the login account and password are perfectly valid as I can login directly to the Insight Manager (W2K3) server using these credentials. When I go into Change Agent Settings within a server version control agent page I am unable to specify the login id and password.

Why has this suddenly stopped working?

Thanks

Lenny

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

if you made the upgrade to SIM 4.2, you have a new component. the system management homeoage on the SIM server. there is a new security and you have to change something.

see HP System Insight Manager 4.2 iGuide, chapter 13 Migrating Version Control to the System Management Homepage:
Previous versions of the System Management Homepage, known as Management HTTP Server,
provided three levels of account access, including administrator, operator and user. These accounts had passwords that were defined locally at the System Management Homepage and were assigned a privilege level that corresponded to the account name. When the System Management Homepage is installed, the Management HTTP Server credentials are used if any Web Agents are installed on a system. The concept of an administrator or operator level still exists and is accomplished by associating an operating system user group with that privilege level in the System Management Homepage security settings, and finally by adding the user accounts to the groups that provide the level or privilege desired.
The Version Control Agent communicates with a Version Control Repository Manager acting as
an HTTP client, just as an interactive user communicates. Therefore, Version Control Agent settings require the name of a system where the Version Control Repository Manager is installed, and the login account and password required to access the System Management Homepage on that system.
The security changes that resulted from the upgrade of the Management HTTP Server to the System Management Homepage, cause the account and password that are configured at the Version Control Agent to be migrated to System Management Homepage. Migrating the Management HTTP Server credentials allows the Version Control Agent to communicate with the Version Control Repository Manager to calculate software status and allow software downloads.

i did it and it´s working fine.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

I have exactly the same problem and cannot find anyway to cure it.
HP Compaq have made things excessively complicated and then provide no help in fixing a problem that they have created.
So come on you so called experts, in plain english how do you fix it !!!.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

SIM 4.2 was installed fresh on a brand new box so migration isn't the issue here. Like I said it all worked fine when installed initially and has, for no reason whatsoever, just stopped working, except on the insight server itself. Could the latest Microsoft security updates have killed it? Wouldn't be the first time Microsoft Security patches have killed SIM.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

Have found a fix for the problem. On the System Management Home Page for my Insight Manager server, select the Settings tab, followed by security, then Local/Anonymous Access. Tick the Anonymous Access box, which it defines as "Allow Anonymous users access to unsecured pages. Please note that this includes local users".

All 18 of my W2K servers can now communicate with the Version Control Repository.

Scott - see if this works for you.

Hi Lenny,

Didn't work for at all ,thx tho.
Well I am giving up with this shite software, I have wasted too much time on it for no result.
Thanks HP/Compa....thanks for nothing.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

Try setting up a separate Admin account on your insight manager server and use this account to authenticate to. This is an issue I had when I first installed it. Let me know if this fixes your issue

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

Already done that created a user and to the local administrator group on the server added it to the Insight Mangaler user and authorisations bit.
Still nada...........
The best job I am going to have monday morning is to delete "Idiot Managler" from my servers !!.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

I had the same issue when upgrading HP SIM from v4.2 to v5. I had a local account on the VCR that was used by all the agents. After the upgrade the account would no longer work. I reconfigured one of my servers to use the same credentials I used when performing the upgrade to v5. That fixed the issue for that server. I then replicated the working servers settings to all other servers. VCR is now working properly.

Re: Versoin Contol Agents cannot login to Insight Server

I had a problem with untrusted VCA's because of restrictive firewall rules. When the firewall allowed for ports 2301 and 2381 both ways (and a new Automatic Discovery was ran), the problem disappeared and I had all my VCA's trusted.
