VMM for HPSIM

I've noticed our ESX hosts in HP SIM don't show any information about the VMs they are running. Also the VMs that have been discovered by SIM using SNMP, there is no information discovered about operating system.

Does the HP VMM pack solve all of this?

Re: VMM for HPSIM

VMM gives you a whole lot of additional management features that you can control from HPSIM.
If you just want better reporting then enable WBEM in HPSIM.
There are a couple of threads regarding this in this forum.

Re: VMM for HPSIM

Thanks for that Rob. The strange thing is the system name for all VMs are being reported as IP addresses, although I'm certain DNS lookups are correct as the HP SIM server can easily reverse lookup these hosts. As an example, all physical machines on the same VLAN and with identical SNMP settings (all coming from the same unattended windows install) are displaying the correct system name.

I'll try WBEM but just wondering why the basic SNMP stuff doesn't work...

HPSIM uses DNS for names, both reverse and forward lookups need to work and produce compatible results.

Re: VMM for HPSIM

Still confused why it's working for all the physical servers, but not the VM's. In all aspects they're the same OS configuration, same DNS, same AD domain, except the fact they're virtualized there should be no difference !

oh well, should be getting quotes back on the VMMs shortly anyway.

thanks
